Class Description
Do you like to read and love to discuss what you read with others? Or maybe you want to start reading some of the books everyone is talking about and learn more along with others in a fun, comfortable setting. Whatever your motivation, this class will select a book or series popular in modern day culture and investigate elements of literature including, but not limited to, theme, mood, character development, drama structure, and foreshadowing. Another emphasis of the class is to have fun, exhilarating, and facilitated conversations about the books. Coffee and treats provided!

Important Class Notes
In this section of Popular Literature we will be taking a look at the wizarding world of Harry Potter. Over six weeks we will read the first two books of the series to get to know the characters and learn about elements of literature as well as other subjects related to the material. Examples include mythology and the author, J.K. Rowling. You will be sorted into your Hogwarts House and have a chance to accumulate points (based on attendance) to use at our own version of a Diagon Alley shop. Please obtain a copy of Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone and Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets. Read Chapters 1-5 of Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone before the first class so we can jump right into discussion.
